Dear Winston Families, Colleagues and Friends,

Our Continuous Feedback System (CFS), a process that guides all of the work that we do at the Winston Innovation Lab (WIL), centers around a highly individualized understanding of every student that we serve, as well as an in depth understanding of the science of learning. At WIL, we recognize that research in learning and learning disorders is continually evolving; therefore, our commitment to reviewing the most current evidence in understanding learning and remediation best practices remains at the forefront of our work. Many steps contribute to building a deepened understanding and applying it directly to the work that we do with students: strategic resource sharing, professional development geared at building the expertise of all faculty members, and a continuous system of assessment that allows faculty to collectively understand each student’s learning profile, goals and progress, and to convey that understanding to both students and families in a meaningful way.

The CFS guides all instructors to engage in ongoing, strategic assessment that continuously contributes to a detailed understanding of students and how to meet them where they are implementing an individualized curriculum that is developed just for them. We look at each aspect of who the student is and the factors that impact their learning so that we can understand the student as a whole in an individualized and innovative way. Within our professional development program, this is one of the key areas that we focus on with faculty, supporting teachers to develop a comprehensive and ongoing understanding that encompasses a clear picture of the student’s learning strengths and needs, social emotional development, and presentation in both academic and social realms. One aspect of the CFS that makes our program particularly distinctive is that we appreciate the ever changing nature of a student’s learning needs and strengths in response to our instruction and their own decisions and experiences and continually work to understand that response so that we can meet our students where they are each day.
