Learning Specialist/Focus Instructor - Marin County Campus

Winston Preparatory School is searching for candidates for a full-time Educational Therapist and/or Reading Specialist at the Marin County campus in San Rafael, California. This position is onsite and immediately available.
 
Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed private day school for 3-12th-grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders, and executive functioning difficulties. Our mission is to facilitate the independence and meaningful participation of students with specific learning disorders through a Continuous Feedback System that develops skill acquisition and the Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner. Essential Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a highly professional, creative thinker who is flexible and works well within a team environment. Candidates must also have excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques to improve the development of receptive/expressive language, cognition, memory, executive function, written language, and organization, as well as the targeting of social-emotional skills as described in our’ Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner (QSIL). 
  • Instruct students using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Instruct 4- 7 students in our daily 1:1 Focus setting, however, class instruction- literature/ written language - are potential opportunity within our setting 
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and practice that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
  • Provide weekly communication with parents to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other outside professionals to develop individualized goals and objectives  designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities
  • Perform related work as required, including weekly parent updates, internal team communications, 3 yearly student reports, and attendance at various school events, activities, and conferences

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Special Education background preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Meet, and Classroom

Salary Range:
$85,000-$95,000
