January 2024

Dear Winston Families, Colleagues and Friends,

The Winston Innovation Lab’s long standing partnership with Common Sense Media has fostered network-wide efforts to bring digital citizenship instruction and skill building directly to our work with students. Through their ongoing research, Common Sense understands the significant role that technology plays in the lives of today’s youth, and it recognizes the need to thoughtfully develop skills in order to give our students the tools they need to navigate the digital world mindfully and responsibly.
Bringing Common Sense’s research and support directly to WPS families, WIL and Common Sense Media presented a collaborative parent webinar entitled Well-Connected: Supporting Your Child As They Navigate the Digital World. Held in November, the webinar brought WPS parents together, providing an opportunity to have their questions answered with expert advice based on current evidence. Topics included setting boundaries and limits around technology use, accepting the permanence of technology in our students’ lives, and recognizing the role of Self-Regulation and Self-Reflection in engaging with the digital space productively. The Innovation Lab is thrilled to continue its valued partnership with Common Sense Media as we remain committed to developing our students’ independence and well-being.
