Winston places a great emphasis on involving our students in community service opportunities through WPSNY Cares, our community service program.
WPSNY Cares volunteer projects have included work at a local food pantry and soup kitchen, cleaning and gardening in city parks, participating in canned food drives, and raising money for causes including the earthquake victims in Haiti and melanoma research, and participating in the first ever September 11th National Day of Service in 2009.
We encourage our students to participate in community service programs through WPSNY Cares and also to create their own activities. Our students have created a presentation on the earthquake in Haiti and worked for months to raise money and clothing for victims. Additionally, each month between ten and fifteen students volunteer at a nearby food pantry on Saturday mornings. Overall, WPSNY Cares has provided a means for the school to involve itself in the greater community as well as for students to feel as though they are part of the greater good.
