Who We Are

Welcome to Winston Preparatory School! We’re proud to be the first and best private school for learning disabilities in NYC!

You’ll find our inclusive community in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Our individualized program meets the unique needs of students with dyslexia, nonverbal learning disorders (NVLD), and executive functioning difficulties (ADHD).

The key to our success is a deep, holistic understanding of each student as a learner and an individual. From there, we help them find their place in our community of independent, resilient scholars. We believe meeting a student’s needs means approaching their education with flexibility. That’s how Winston Prep students become leaders in their own learning, and 80% go on to pursue higher education.

Our Values

  • Independence

At our NYC private school for kids with learning disabilities, our primary goal has always been independence. When our educators tell students, “You know what to do,” they are often correct. That’s because we make progress transparent and invite caregivers into the process so the work can continue at home. When students can state their goals with confidence, they can meet their goals with pride.
  • Resilience

The best way to learn is through making and understanding your mistakes. Thus, we believe one key to progress in the classroom is giving students permission to try. Our encouraging environment invites students to persist through their struggles and grow in the process. We’re one of the few private schools in NYC where a bold, brave failure is always a reason to celebrate!
  • Responsibility

Responsibility and accountability go hand in hand. Our Focus program provides an opportunity for students to connect with an expert teacher five days per week. Over time, every learner begins to take ownership of their work, progress, and future.
  • Self-Advocacy

As a caregiver, you were your child’s first advocate. Is it time for you to pass the torch and allow your child to take charge of their own future? At our independent high school in NYC, we include students in all decisions that impact their learning. We find this is wonderful preparation for futures beyond our halls.
  • Self-Awareness

Students cannot grow without a solid understanding of where they are and where they want to be. Learning is a journey, and students must be aware of their skills, strengths, and struggles to reach their final destination. Through regular, transparent assessment, we help students understand themselves as learners and people.

    Graduate

There really is no other school like Winston, where all the teachers and other students are so kind, understanding, and everyone is willing to help and be supportive of each other. Winston prep is like my second family. My life-changing experience at Winston has taught me that anything is possible.
